INTRODUCTION
Department of Radiotherapy
The Department of Radiotherapy, AIIMS Gorakhpur, provides comprehensive cancer care through advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and multidisciplinary management. The department is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centric treatment using modern technology and standardized clinical protocols.
The department is equipped with a state-of-the-art Versa HD Linear Accelerator (LINAC), enabling the delivery of advanced external beam radiotherapy techniques, including Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy (3D-CRT), Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), and Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). These techniques facilitate precise radiation delivery while maximizing target coverage and minimizing dose to surrounding normal tissues.
The department also offers High-Dose-Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy using the Elekta Flexitron system, providing highly conformal treatment for a variety of malignancies, particularly gynecological cancers. In addition, a dedicated CT Simulator is available for accurate treatment planning and image-guided radiotherapy, ensuring precise target delineation and optimal treatment delivery.
Along with radiotherapy services, the department provides comprehensive chemotherapy for patients with solid malignancies. Chemotherapy is administered by trained oncology professionals in accordance with established treatment protocols. The department has a dedicated Day Care Chemotherapy Unit for the safe and efficient administration of outpatient chemotherapy and a fully equipped inpatient ward exclusively for the management of cancer patients requiring hospitalization.
The Department of Radiotherapy functions through a multidisciplinary approach, working in close collaboration with surgical, medical, diagnostic, and supportive care specialties to provide comprehensive oncological care. The department is committed to excellence in patient care, education, and research while continuously striving to improve the quality and accessibility of cancer services in the region.
