The Department of Paediatrics of AIIMS, Gorakhpur is committed to advancing the health of infants, children, and adolescents through innovative medical care, research, education, training, and advocacy. We bring together experienced faculty members from across the nation committed to the cause of advancing paediatric health and research. We offer broadbased training in general paediatrics, critical care and paediatric subspecialties within a variety of ambulatory, inpatient and community settings. Integrated with our educational activities, these programs provide hands-on learning to equip our graduates with the skills they will need as future advocates of children's health.
Through our programs and initiatives we strive to deliver state-of-the-art tertiary care services in this region. We envisage that our continued efforts to collaborate with various research organisations will pay rich dividends in terms of valued research which can transform the discoveries into effective diagnostics, treatments and preventive therapies.
We strive to foster progressive research, advancement of knowledge and clinical excellence with availability of affordable health care for all children in this region.

Department of Paediatrics has started multiple speciality clinics to cater to cohorts of children with chronic or recurrent health issues. The aim of these clinics is to ensure specialised and dedicated follow-up to ensure better compliance to health interventions and improved outcomes. Additionally, these clinics endeavour to generate patient data for meaningful research aimed at better understanding of the health issues. As a long term goal, these speciality clinics are nidus for evolution into full-fledged sub/super-speciality divisions to fulfil the mandate of tertiary care healthcare.

Paediatric Nephrology Clinic: This clinic caters to paediatric chronic renal diseases particularly nephrotic syndrome. Along with ensuring adherence to long term treatment plan, the clinic focusses on screening of co-morbidities/complications and patient education. Paediatric Nephrology Clinic is conducted on every Wednesday from 2pm-4pm.

Paediatric Asthma Clinic: In view of large cohort of asthma in children and adolescents in this region, a dedicated clinic for such children was initiated. The clinic in addition to providing specialised follow-up, endeavours to provide patient education to dispel the myths related with respiratory allergies and correct usage of drug delivery devices such as MDI. Paediatric Asthma Clinic is conducted on every Thursday from 2pm-4pm.

Developmental Clinic: This clinic is an attempt to cater to children with neurodevelopmental and behavioural issues whose long term follow-up has been hitherto unaddressed in this region. The developmental clinic has collaborated with departments such as PMR, ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry along with establishing channels of referrals with Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC)-Gorakhpur, to provide multi-modality care to children with neuro-developmental issues. Developmental Clinic is conducted on every Friday from 2pm-4pm.

Lactation & Nutritional Counselling Corner: As part of our initiative to address the problem of malnutrition in under 5 children and to improve breastfeeding and infant & young child feeding (IYCF) practices, a dedicated space for counselling and patient education on these issues has been started. This initiative is also part of department’s QI initiative to improve screening and counselling of under-5 children with moderate and severe malnutrition. Nutritional counselling services are part of routine OPD and are available on all working days.

GOALS

Our goal is to be leaders in child health with unsurpassed credentials. Through our core principles of excellent C.A.R.E, we endeavour to foster an environment of team work, collaboration ,innovation and inspiration.

FUTURE VISION

Our vision is to establish advanced level 3 Neonatal and Pediatric ICUs as well as speciality clinics for immunisation, nephrotic syndrome, thalassemia and asthma. We hope to collaborate with other stakeholders in this region to achieve our collective goals of advancement of child health in this region. We wish to establish AIIMS Gorakhpur as DBTNIDAAN Kendra for diagnosis and research activities related to genetic metabolic diseases.
We strive to have complete range of paediatric services including trauma and emergency ward, 12 bedded paediatric ward and level 2 and level 3 NICU and PICU areas.
