INTRODUCTION

Department of Anaesthesia came in to existence in January 2020. The department has started its modest beginning with PAC clinic and OT services in February 2020. Currently there is one PAC clinic and one Operation Theater (OT) for all surgical procedures.

Despite of the limitation of initial set up and man power, the department is progressing at a steady pace and is dedicated to provide high quality Anaesthesia services. Department is actively involved in research and academic activities and determined to establish high standards in patient care, education and research.

FACILITIES

1 PAC clinic

Patients scheduled for surgical/investigative procedures are screened in the PAC Clinic which is located on the first floor of Ayush Block from 9am to 5pm five days a week i.e., Monday to Friday.

2 OT currently running on first floor of Ayush Block

At present, the Department provides protocolled anaesthesia and ICU services to General Surgery, Obstetric and Gynaecology, ENT and Orthopaedics.

Progress during 2021-2022

  • Initiation of PAC clinic 09:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday and 09:00 AM to 02:00 PM on Saturday each week. Referred patients scheduled for surgical/investigative procedures are screened in the PAC Clinic which is located in Ground floor AYUSH block.
  • Restart of operative services from 25/06/2021 (Major OT services)
  • Initiation of Local/Minor OT since last week of March 2022.
  • Initiation of out of OR anaesthesia services for bronchoscopy since March 2022
  • Post-anaesthesia recovery room (PACU) is established with multi-parameter monitors, defibrillator machine for emergency requirement.
  • Actively involved in COVID preparedness like the plan of patient flow, patient management protocol for initiation of level II COVID facility during the
  • Received life membership of Prestigious Societies like ICA, AIDDA, and ISTAC.
  • Conducted various workshops on Basic Life support and Mechanical Ventilation for MBBS and Nursing students
  • Principal investigators in research projects like clinical trials, and observational studies with and without intramural grants

GOALS

  • To start smooth functioning of OT services in coordination with surgical specialty.
  • To start MD Anaesthesiology course.
  • To start Emergency OT/ICU/Trauma care services.
  • To establish various super specialty division of Anaesthesiology, PDCC and DM courses.
  • To establish skill lab for teaching & training of paramedical and medical personnel.
  • To start outreach programme of teaching and training.
  • Evolution as well as provision of safe, efficient, ethical, and state-of-the-art perioperative care of patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Innovation and excellence in anaesthesia clinical practice, research and medical education of students, residents, fellows, paramedical staff as well as lay persons.

Future Goals

  • Department will provide protocolled anaesthesia and ICU services to General Surgery, Obstetric and Gynaecology, IVF, ENT, Orthopaedics, Urology, Paediatric Surgery, GI surgery, Ophthalmic theatres, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and Trauma centre; it will also provide peripheral anesthesia services to interventional radiology, MRI, CT scan, ECT, bronchoscopy.
  • To ensure that all operation theatres are equipped with state of the art anaesthesia machines, facilities for invasive blood pressure and CVP monitoring, Entropy and BIS monitoring. Coagulation monitoring and rapid fluid infuser for major surgery and ultrasonography for regional anesthesia blocks and for vascular access.
  • ICU to be equipped with modern ventilators, multiparameter monitors, ultrasonography, and echocardiography machine and, a dedicated laboratory. The ICU will cater to post surgical and medical patients.
  • To provide acute and chronic pain services including obstetric analgesia services.
  • Establishment and development of various subspecialties of Anaesthesiology like Critical Care, Pediatric Anaesthesia, Neuro-anaesthesia, Cardiac Anaesthesia, Onco Anaesthesia, Transplant anaesthesia and Pain and palliative care with initiation of P.D.C.C, P.D.F. and D.M. programs.
  • To start skill-based learning i.e. establishment of simulation lab. It will aid in teaching and hands on training of anaesthesia, vascular access, central neuraxial blockade, peripheral nerve blockade and emergency scenarios including CPR. The simulator will also be used for teaching and assessing Non-Technical Skills (NTS).
  • To establish Centre for AHA certified training of BLS, ACLS and ATLS
  • To establish and run IRC certified courses
  • Department will regularly conduct National & International conferences, workshops and Continuous Medical Education programs
