Executive Director’s Message

Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, SM, Director and CEO of AIIMS Gorakhpur, is a reservoir of knowledge, grace, ethics, intelligence, and wisdom. She is an internationally recognized pathologist, scientist, humanist, and leader in the fields of Pathology and Oncopathology.

Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta completed her MBBS from UCMS Delhi, before joining the Army Medical Corps on May 30, 1983. She pursued her post-graduation in Pathology at the AFMC Pune, followed by specialized training in Oncopathology at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. She later earned her PhD in Oncopathology from AIIMS, Delhi.

A dynamic personality, she is a lifetime member of several international organizations in Pathology and Cytology. The Armed Forces Medical Services also deputed her for specialized training in Liver Transplant Pathology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Her profound academic depth is evident in her tenure as a Professor of Pathology at the prestigious Army Hospital (Research & Referral) and AFMC, Pune. Additionally, she has served as a PhD guide for students at Pune University.

A distinguished researcher, she has made significant contributions to both national and international medical journals. Her expertise and dedication to the field have earned her the prestigious Sena Medal, awarded by the President of India for her lifetime contributions to Pathology. She has also been honoured with several accolades, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Award, COAS Commendation, and the Marvellous Icon Award.

Beyond her academic and research excellence, her administrative acumen is exemplified by her appointment as the Commandant of the esteemed 800-bed super-specialty Command Hospital in Lucknow. Her unwavering dedication and work ethic have consistently set her apart as a leader in the field.

After an illustrious, unblemished career spanning 35 years in the Armed Forces, her exceptional foresight in navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of medicine led to her appointment as Director of AIIMS Nagpur. Through her relentless efforts and commitment to excellence, she transformed AIIMS Nagpur into one of the most sought-after medical institutions in the country.

Notably, she is the only Army officer to have served as Director and CEO of two premier Institutes of National Importance (INIs).

Her visionary leadership and charismatic presence will not only inspire her mentees but also uplift the faculty and support staff at AIIMS Gorakhpur, driving its transformation into a center of excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare.
