INTRODUCTION
The department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy in AIIMS, Gorakhpur started providing patient care from February 2019 and got its first faculty member Dr Sunil Kumar Gupta, as Associate Professor. Since then the department has steadily progressed, expanded and diversified its activities to contribute to the advances in the understanding and treatment of various dermatologic diseases.
FACILITIES
The OPD is run on weekdays from Monday to Friday. The department handles an average of 200 patients daily. This accounts for one of the busiest OPDs in our hospital. Besides consultation, the department carries out procedures like biopsy, needle extirpation, comedone expression and chemical peeling in the minor OT.
In the Department of Dermatology AIIMS, Gorakhpur at present five special clinics are running from Monday to Friday (2:00 pm to 4:00 pm)
- Monday - Immunobullous/Autoimmune disorder
- Tuesday - Leprosy clinic
- Wednesday - Vitiligo clinic
- Thursday - Psoriasis
- Friday – Sexual transmitted disease clinic
With this department also conducts Focus Group Discussions for the patient to combat the social stigma of skin disease.
Beside these, department is also providing Anti Leprosy Drugs (MDT) and MCR foot wears to all leprosy affected.

FUTURE VISION
- Start Specialty Clinics for Leprosy, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Contact Dermatitis, Pigmentary Disordes, Psoriasis and Immunobullous Disorders.
- Start IPD with concept of Intensive skin care unit
- Start Post graduation course in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy
- Start Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology, Psychodermatology & Dermatopathology
- Research and Academic works for UG’s and PG’s
- Start Dermatosurgery (Vitiligo surgery, Nail surgery, Hair transplantation, Scar revision)
- Start Laser, Botox and Aesthetic procedures
