About the Department

The Department of Gastroenterology at AIIMS Gorakhpur was established in September 2024,
with the vision to provide excellent patient care services in the region,
create qualified gastroenterologists for the country,
provide quality education, and conduct advanced research in the field of Gastroenterology.

Currently Available Services

The Department of Gastroenterology provides comprehensive care through thrice weekly outpatient services
addressing a wide spectrum of Gastroenterology illnesses.

1. Out-patient Services

The Gastroenterology OPD runs three days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The department manages a wide range of patients including those with:

• Functional gastrointestinal disorders
• Chronic liver disease and its complications
• Acute and chronic pancreatitis
• Inflammatory bowel disease

2. Endoscopic Services

Endoscopic services are available three days a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
These include:

• Diagnostic: Upper and lower GI endoscopies
• Therapeutic:
  • Variceal band ligation
  • Glue injection
  • Hemoclipping
  • Adrenaline injection
  • Argon plasma coagulation for GI bleeding
  • Polypectomies
  • Stricture dilatation

3. Inpatient Services

Currently, for inpatient admissions, patients are admitted in the
Department of General Medicine including the Medicine ICU and IPD
until further departmental expansion.
